Case International teamworkIn an international organisation, many teams had members located in different countries. Collaboration was not effective. In many cases, progress was mainly realised when the team met face-to-face for a couple of days in a single location. As a result, teams’ goals and objectives were not met. DistantTeamwork coached these teams in developing ways of working together remotely. This was done by bringing people together in workshops to learn how to collaborate at a distance: virtual leadership, agreeing on protocols, balancing virtual and face-to-face meetings. The results was that teams now achieve their goals faster, at significantly lower travel costs. |
Case VideoconferencingIn
a multinational company, videoconferencing faclities that had been
introduced 10 year earlier, were hardly used. Employeees were not aware
of its availability, and videoconferencing had the reputation of being
technically unreliable.

Case Globalisation en strategy realisationGlobalisation and informatisation have great impact on how companies do business. As tasks are getting more complex the way people collaborate in the company becomes more and more important. The strategy and policies of organisations are often insufficiently tuned to these new ways of working, and thereby slowdown the organisation’s growth. In a number of strategy sessions, DistantTeamwork worked together with Company X to develop and adopt policy changes in the areas of information security and exchange, and ways of working, resulting in better collaboration at various levels in the organisation.

Case: Information sharing through TeamworkplacesFor project teams it is important that information is available and accessible to all stakeholders. Various commercial team workplace products are available (examples are Microsoft Sharepoint, IBM Lotus Quickplace, Projectplace), that support management of documents, shared calendar management and provide discussion forum facilities. The shared information can then be accessed via Internet or corporate intranet.Successful application of a Teamworkplace requires integration of its management and use in the working procedures and culture of the project team. When this is not done, we find that the tools are not kept up-to-date, and thereby lose their added value for the team. DistantTeamwork coached several teams through the introduction of these Teamworkplaces, focussing on protocols for collaboration, database structure, and alignment of working processes with the teams’ culture.
